The lesson to be learned from these 2 articles is to EASE INTO BAREFOOT RUNNING SLOWLY! Many recommend to try complete barefoot running first before running in VFFs. Barefoot running completely corrects the way you run & makes sure that you never hit your heel. Once you learn this proper running technique, it's now safe to run in VFFs. The first article focuses more on running in the FiveFinger shoes & doesn't go into too much detail about actual barefoot running. Yes, it is possible to still run incorrectly in VFFs, hence the recommendation to start barefoot first. Also, you need to build up to barefoot running; you cannot just kick off your old-well supported-running shoes and run a few miles right away. Start off walking barefoot, then the next day jog slowly for just a quarter of a mile - making sure your strides are a lot shorter than if you were to comfortably run like you're used to. Build up to sprinting & longer distances; it is DEFINITELY not recommended to dive into these activies right away. When you start feeling less sore as time goes on, it's a good sign you can keep building up and pushing yourself just a little more each time. If you ease into barefoot running, start slow, shorten your strides, & make sure your technique is correct, you will have a very successful barefoot running experience!
