L: “You did 6 sets?”
L: “When the 15 minute timer went off, you finished your last rep of your last workout right on the dot?”
And I thought pushing through my maximums was tough! This workout had me pushing hard just to get in one more rep at the end. Throughout the entire thing, I found myself asking the same important question, why am I doing this again?
Oh yeah… to get ripped!
Keep in mind, I am somebody who tends to favor procrastination over action, and working out is no exception… but I committed to this challenge and am going to continue pursuing our fit-by-November 30th goal.
My first time around, yes, I completed 6 FULL sets… finished my last set as the timer went off and slowly walked back into the room where Lynette was “working” (yeah, right. I don’t believe her either.)
All that motivation couldn't explain how I felt, though. I felt everything. Pain and bliss; exhaustion and energy. I really felt alive. There was blood coursing through my veins and a silence in my head. You can say it was borderline meditative…
Let's backtrack a second to put this feeling into perspective. When that timer said GO, I had a determination that got me flying through the first round and had me going strong until... BOOM! I couldn't breathe. I had to wrestle between the effort it took to breathe and trying to squeeze in one more rep.
Then something amazing happened. 2:03… that was the remaining time I had left. The sense of urgency just took over. I lost the pain of breathing and just did it naturally. My muscles got a second wind, and I pushed through another set.
This experience had me filled with mixed emotions, having not moved this much for a long time, but at the same time, feeling lucky that I had functioning body parts.
Feeling compelled to make use of a functioning body is motivating, and keeping my word in a challenge is the spark igniting my fire. I attacked this workout and hoped that Lynette could join me…
But we’re creatures of habit, and unfortunately it's a habit for us to procrastinate…
We’re about to change that!
