I ran the 8K Shamrock Shuffle this weekend (approx. 5 miles) with a fellow-Paleo-Chicago-Meetup member and founder, Matt. HE RAN BAREFOOT! Full on: no shoes, no socks, NAKED BARE FEET!
I felt like the 2nd coolest person there because I was running alongside the 1st coolest person there! I was so inspired, too, & promised I would look into this. I was introduced to a whole new world of benefits & a new outlook on a pain-free running future! I hadn't ran in my VFFs for this race, solely because I haven't been running/training for this race at ALL until literally 1 week ago; exactly 1 week ago on Sunday, I ran a minut one-miler in my VFFs - ONLY a 10-15 minute run, & honestly FRIDAY was the first day I wasn't SO SORE & could walk normally again. I would be crazy to run the 8K the barefoot[ish] way... so there I am running in my FULL-SUPPORT Brooks running shoes. I felt kinda stupid - but was given MORE motivation to start running in my VFFs & start looking into REAL barefoot running!
Watch the following video starring another fellow Paleo Chicago Meetup member, Owen McCall:
Owen is also the organizer of the meetup group Chicago Area Barefoot Running! Learn from, talk to, & run with the star himself! (Hey, he was on TV; this makes him famous!)
