Myth #1: Cholesterol causes heart disease
Something doesn't add up; individuals with low/normal cholesterol levels are dying of heart attacks, & those with elevated cholesterol have completely normal hearts. In reality, cholesterol isn't what is causing clogged arteries nor heart disease. In fact, studies show that the higher your cholesterol, the longer you live. Cholesterol is not harmful & should not be something to worry about; for most people, cholesterol-lowering-drugs are not the answer - they do not work. Dr. Bowden explains that it is as if you're trying to reduce calories by taking the lettuce off your burger. Cholesterol is simply not the target, & it's actually quite the opposite.

Myth #2: Statin drugs are safe & will prolong your life
Statin drugs are anti-inflammatory and thin the blood, and while these drugs do indeed lower cholesterol, the cholesterol is not the cause of most issues. The only group in particular that these drugs have shown to be beneficial are middle-aged men with coronary disease & low LDL.

Side Effects (grossly underreported):
* Coronary calcification
* Memory loss
* Sexual dysfunction
* Muscle pain
* Liver problems
Cholesterol is a vital component in our lives, total cholesterol does not matter, & not ALL LDL is bad! The root cause of heart disease is inflammation, & what causes inflammation is sugar, which creates plaque, & causes insulin spikes, etc. Rather than focusing on lowering cholesterol, focus on keeping your heart healthy. Lower inflammation by eating anti-inflammatory foods, getting rid of toxic relationships, lowering stress in your life, getting sunshine & vitamin D, exercising, etc. All of these behaviors will ensure a long, healthy life!
